KAUST | Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship

KAUST | Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Program of Requirements & Designproposal

Together with TUDelft we were asked to create a PoR and design proposal because of our expertise with the development of the Dutch Young Entrepreneurial Society Delft, YES!Delft.

One of the drivers for the KAUST Master Plan is to develop an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship that attracts tenants, supports collaboration with University initiatives and supports emerging technology ventures. At this stage KAUST desires an Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to be part of that Research and Technology Park ecosystem.

In order to realize this, the demands for such an institute were identified, resulting in a program of requirements and designproposal for the institute.

The concept should not be an architectural statement on its own. Solving the apparent contradiction between the need for adjustability, the crucial interaction between users and the ambition for the building to embrace and radiate the ambitions of KAUST is a core task in the design phase. Basically the building should be robust and have a simple construction combined with a sustainable character and high tech appearance. With this it anticipates on future use and need for flexibility while it’s architecture shows and emphasizes KAUST’s and the Institute’s technical know how and ambition.
